Typically, yeah. I've seen a few shinki on the network asking for other opinions on it in the past, and it seems like a lot of us will just pick some day that we'd like to set aside to celebrate anyway.
Which, if you wanted to celebrate something you didn't remember the day of, seems like as good of a way to do it as any.
Well...it'd be a lot easier if I had my memories. But the easiest one would be the day I arrived here. Still, I'd rather keep that as a separate anniversary, if I can. Fall is my favorite season, if that helps?
By the way, Shiro's birthday is on February 29th. I know you said you aren't a fan of parties, but if you wouldn't mind helping me plan something...?
Fall's a good season. The leaves were changing to some pretty brilliant colors here starting in late October, if that sounds appealing at all.
[Maybe narrowing a window of time down bit by bit will be helpful.]
I can do that. That should give us close to a couple of months to figure something out, I'm sure the two of us can put together something he'd like by then.
When you put some kind of importance on a day, that naturally makes it easier to remember. Anyone who wants to celebrate your birthday will remember it no matter what day you pick, I’d think. [That said, he’s definitely making a note of it in his phone’s calendar whenever she decides on one for certain.] The 30th sounds good, too.
Shiro’s the fourth god I’ve had. None of them have been terrible but that doesn’t mean they’ve all been great, either.
You have a good point. [ that was also pretty sweet, keith. ] I wouldn't want to have it clash with an important holiday, though, so the 30th sounds perfect.
Would you mind telling me what made them...not so great?
[Don’t tell him that - he’ll get embarrassed for sure.]
The 30th it is, then. You want me to let Shiro know, or do you have it covered?
[The question takes a little bit of mulling over on Keith’s end, leaving a decidedly longer pause between replies than he had been giving. He doesn’t want to feel like he’s complaining, or oversharing, but it doesn’t hurt to give her an idea of what she might have dodged...]
My first one basically told me he wasn’t invested in the idea of teamwork the day we met, and he disappeared without us getting a chance to fight together. The second one named me without any warning. [. . .] Futaba was pretty cool, though.
[There, that should make it read less like a list of complaints. Yeah.]
[Hopefully she’ll still be around next October to enjoy it, he thinks. You know, because they made the effort and all, it’d be a shame for it to go to waste.]
It’s in the past. The second one, his name was Lance, we at least ended up working together kind of well. It was just a rocky way to start.
All three of them disappeared. It happens sometimes, but no one can really figure out why as far as I can tell. You'll probably see it for yourself sooner or later.
[This one takes a little while for him to reply to again. It's a topic that he tries not to take too personally, but it's hard to not feel invested in it when it keeps happening to you.]
The longer you stay here, the more you'll see things like that happen. That's really just how it is.
Hopefully Shiro and I won't ever put you through it, though.
[ she's assuming that keith's had it rough. when he takes a little while to reply, she worries that she's overstepped her boundaries. she starts typing up an apology when he replies. ]
I hope I don't put either of you through it, either. [ she thinks about what to say next; again, she's worrying about overstepping her boundaries, but... ]
I know we've only just met, but both of you are important to me. And I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe.
[No apologies expected - and it’s probably for the best to delay letting her fall into the habit of apologizing for a little longer.
The sentiment is a little unexpected in it’s raw sincerity, and the pause in his reply this time mostly comes from trying to digest it.]
I’ll do the same for you, and for Shiro. We’re a team, so we have to watch each other’s backs as often as we can. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you ever need any help.
[ she's surprised when her sincerity is returned, but she's glad for it. he'd already earned her loyalty when they first formed a team, but his text solidifies it. she smiles as she replies to him. ]

No. I'm not really big on parties, so I didn't see a point.

I see.
Well...
I figured I should ask anyway: Do you want to help me come up with my birthday?
no subject
If you want my help, then I don't mind.
Did you have any dates in particular you were thinking of?
a little later:
Fall is my favorite season, if that helps?

Certainly! I want it to be something special. I can tell that he cares about us very much, and I'd like to show him the same kindness in return.

[Not to dissuade her, of course.]
Yeah, he's been pretty welcoming, all things considered. You don't always get that with new god and shinki partnerships.
i forgot holidays were in rwby, rip
[ people should celebrate halloween on halloween, not her birthday! ]
So I've heard. I hope you haven't had any partnerships that were too terrible...?
What the heck is a halloween
Shiro’s the fourth god I’ve had. None of them have been terrible but that doesn’t mean they’ve all been great, either.
never heard of it, can you eat it
Would you mind telling me what made them...not so great?
I bet it’s super sugary.

and totally bad for you
[ she and shiro have their own conversation going on that may have involved keith at one point.... ]
I see... Those first two sound like really unfortunate instances. I'm sorry to hear that you had some unpleasant experiences, Keith.
Was Futaba your most recent god?
not the kind of thing you want on your birthday
[Hopefully she’ll still be around next October to enjoy it, he thinks. You know, because they made the effort and all, it’d be a shame for it to go to waste.]

She was.
at least the candy tastes good
Do you mind if I asked what happened to her? And the other gods?

I'd be very sad if you or Shiro disappeared.
